This is the second to last Cars and Coffee event of 2016. This time around, not very many cars showed up as there was a light rain. A Carrera GT and Porsche 918 showed up but that didn't take the spotlight. Something unique, showed up. Let me show you what I mean.

I attended my first Bay Area M3/M4 meetup today. It took place in Fremont, California. The reason I didn't post beforehand of this event was because I didn't want to promote an event that I myself have not been to. I wanted to experience it firsthand and if it was a great experience I would then share will all my readers. The meetup was phenomenal. A great deal of M3 and M4 vehicles dropped by. There were mostly the newer F8x models but some E92, E46 and E36 cars did show up as well. In total I would say that there was about 30-40 cars and about 50 or so people in attendance. Not a bad turnout for a Saturday morning! Going there for the first time, I didn't know what to expect. For the most part, people were really friendly and let others into their cars to check out what mods they did etc. Overall, I would say the experience was positive. It was a nice environment to talk about cars with like minded people. Here's just to show how big of a crowd there actually was Check some of the cool cars that showed up
Yesterday I encountered my first really negative reaction towards my M3. I just thought it would be a nice story to share with everyone. I was trying to merge onto the highway, which was no problem. After merging I decided to change lanes towards the middle lane, so I downshifted, RPMs going higher. After I change lanes, a C230 does a flyby in the leftmost lane a couple of seconds later, making sure I see and hear his modified exhaust, all the while having the passenger stick out his hand giving me a thumbs down. And boy did that passenger want to show me his disapproval. That really left me wondering if I did something wrong. I surely didn't cut him off since when I switched lanes and there wasn't anyone there. I moved over slowly too. I guess hearing my engine noise makes him feel immature enough to feel threatened? I guess haters can hate.
I also felt that there really was no reason for me to catch up to him and give him the middle finger or shout some expletives. What good would that have done? I have the most to lose with a brand new car, and my life or the life of others surely isn't worth some momentary retribution or glory. And besides, the M3 is clearly faster. Honestly it was kind of funny, so I just laughed it off. Makes a great story to tell later on right? Drive safely everyone!
Short answer: No. I don’t consider the M3 to be a supercar. Although for the price of a new M3, one can certainly get a used supercar easily or a new exotic, ie. Lamborghini Gallardo 2004 or Maserati Ghibli. The M3 is mainly a GT or grand touring car. It is respectably fast on the straights and handles well on the corners. It wasn’t made to compete with the likes of Ferrari or McLaren. It was made to be an all-around vehicle that can take the kiddies to school in the morning, get you to work later in the day and simply rip the rear tires off at the track. Not many other vehicles in the world can be as versatile as the M3 in terms of performance, cost, usability, and looks.
