I had one of the worst experiences with this particular Ford dealer in the Bay Area ... I'm not going to list any names but I just wanted to share this with everyone. Click below to read more. At the SF Auto Show, Ford Motors was showcasing their cars along with a booth. They had a promotion that if you went to go test drive a Ford, they would send you a $50 Mastercard gift card. I thought why not get paid to go drive. Dream come true right? Wrong ...
The next few weeks went by and I finally decided to go to my local Ford dealer because I had a few extra hours to spare that particular day. I was driving up in my M3 and pulled into the parking lot. The salesperson had a huge grin on his face looking all excited that a this particular customer had rolled up. I had a feeling from the get go that I would get treated horribly once they knew I wanted to go pick up my gift card. He greeted me with enthusiasm and so I asked "Are you busy right now", to which he replied "No, not at all". There was no one else in the show room besides a few salesmen standing around so I knew I wasn't being a huge hassle. I pulled out the instructions to getting a free gift card and showed him that I wanted to go test drive so I could get my $50 bucks. One of the other salesmen asked if I just wanted the gift card and didn't want to buy a car. I replied "I'm not looking to buy a car at this moment, but you can try. Who knows after a test drive." My salesperson didn't offer me a test drive and told me to go over to his desk. I wasn't expecting a test drive so that was fine. He then got onto his computer and proceeded to fill out the template with my info so I could get my card. A minute into that, he told me in a condescending tone "You know you can go fill this out yourself online". I just replied "You're a nice guy so you're helping me out". He promptly shot back "Yes, I'm a nice guy but I could be spending me time elsewhere ... I'm not making an money on this deal ... " I was just in utter disbelief ... you treat me well because I have an M3 and you treat me like this when I'm not buying a car on this particular day ... with no other customers in the entire dealership. I was in shock, there was no use telling him he didn't deserve any commission on any sale, particularly mine. Honestly, I would expect more from a salesperson, at least some respect. It's not as if I was being rude or disrespectful. He only spent less than 5 minutes with me. If I'm not worth 5min, he's not worth me spending a cent or another second with him. Needless to say, I will not be going back to that dealer. It's simply unfortunate that things like this still happens. It doesn't matter if I'm in a 500k car or a 5k car, people need to be treated with respect. Customers don't buy things immediately, it's a relationship that's being built and that's what gets people back another time or even a 3rd and 4th time. I mean a car isn't the same as buying gum or candy on a whim. Hope no one else gets treated the same. *I'm purposefully not calling the dealer out on this or that particular salesman, I do have his card ... if I'm being disrespected, it doesn't mean I have to do the same to them
