I was driving along the freeway at a very reasonable speed and what happens? A very near miss by the Mini Cooper as it was trying to change lanes. Take a look at the video to see just how close this was to an accident. Note that it was shot on my phone so it has a wide aperture so in reality the car was closer that it appears. Read more down below as I break it down play by play. I was driving in the middle lane of the freeway as the Mini Cooper was merging onto the highway. The Mini got onto the right most lane without any issue. It then decided to switch into the middle lane but I was also in the middle lane! I assumed that the driver either a) did not look into her blindspot or b) checked her blindspot only when she merged onto the freeway. Both of these are not the proper procedures for switching into the middle lane in this case. I saw that the Mini was inching closer into my lane. The good thing was that she didn't swerve into my lane extremely fast, but still it wasn't a super slow merge either. I immediately slammed on the brakes, honked all while I was moving into the carpool lane to avoid a crash (I looked to see that there wasn't any cars prior, anticipating that the Mini might switch into my lane). When I'm driving I'm constantly aware of my surroundings so that in case there might be a situation that arises where I need to take evasive action, I know what my options are. The braking force can be seen in the video and that was at a max of 0.86G which is just incredible. That shows just how close I was to being involved in an accident. I hope the lady driving the car will learn from her mistake so that she doesn't put anyone else's life in danger. Stay safe out there my friends!
