The newest Porsche GT2RS broke the Nurburgring record with a 6 minute 47.25 second lap time!! That's just incredible!! The Porsche 918 Spyder in comparison was a 6 minute 57 second lap time!! Find out down below on how I think the GT2RS made history. The GT3 and GT2 cars from Porsche had always been the hard core track cars but the RS versions are the totally stripped out versions with the lightest materials and the greatest engineering. It's putting down 700HP via a rear wheel drive system. The spring to 60mph takes only 2.7s but we all know Porsche 0-60 times have always been conservative. I am willing to say that when the magazines are able to get their hands on one of these, it will be around 2.5s. The engine is a twin turbo 3.8 liter flat six spitting out 553lb-ft of torque. The top speed comes close to 211mph and in the video linked below, it does come close to breaking the 200mph barrier on the world record run. It's claimed to be 3,241 lbs with a full tank of gas. Only a year prior did the Lamborghini Performante 640-4 break the ring record. This feat of engineering is nothing to be ashamed of. It beat the Lambo by about 5s and that's just stunning in it of itself. It had all wheel drive with active aerodynamics. I think for the Porsche to beat the 918, a hypercar is just pure awesomeness. A few years back, any production car going under 7 minutes was considered a feat of engineering. The P1 also came close to the 918 time. The Aventador SV also broke the 7 minute barrier but it wasn't until the Performante that really pushed the limits. The GT2RS now is making history for production cars. I think the weight advantage of the Porsche plus the aero made this car phenomenal in being a track weapon. The huge wing and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires made sure that the car was having the most traction possible all the time, especially digging out of the corners. The choice to go PDK was the correct one. It shifts faster than any human with a manual. There's simply no excuse not to go with this transmission. The car was meant to be a track focused car so there shouldn't be many complaints that there isn't a manual. The new GT3 touring will be the car for you if that's what you seek. There's many components that make this car spectacular. There's simply just too many to name but check out the run down below.
